"Our mission is to empower change and reduce recidivism by equipping overlooked individuals with opportunities for self-efficacy and redemption."
Remember Us? Here’s the Organization We Promised to Build.
To the men of El Dorado Correctional Facility,
Many of you will remember us from our time working at the facility. Before we left, we shared our dream of building a new, independent organization dedicated to creating powerful opportunities for success after incarceration.
Today, we are proud to formally introduce you to that organization: SoulCraft: Redemption & Empowerment.
We founded SoulCraft based on the relationships we built and the conversations we had with you at EDCF. You are the inspiration behind this entire mission. Now, our single biggest goal is to bring these resources back to you.
What We Want to Bring to El Dorado: Our Core Programs
We have designed a set of three core programs that we want to offer at EDCF. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive approach, from foundational skills to professional employment.
-
The "inMediate" Program: Creative & Professional Skills
This is our dynamic, hands-on program for building a powerful new skillset. inMediate blends essential soft skills—like communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution—with valuable creative and technical training in fields like video production, event coordination, and project management. This program is designed to give you both the professional polish and the practical abilities to succeed in today's economy. -
Mentoring & Personal Growth
We want to build on the connections we already have through dedicated one-on-one and group mentoring. This is a space for you to focus on your personal journey, build self-awareness, and develop the inner strength needed to navigate the road ahead. -
Employment & Professional Certification
This is our most exciting offering: a direct employment track through SoulCraft. This program offers paid opportunities to earn certifications in high-demand multimedia and business skills, allowing you to build a professional portfolio and a career before you're even released.
How You Can Help Us Bring SoulCraft to EDCF
Here is the honest truth: we are not yet approved to begin programming inside the facility. To get approval, the administration needs to know that these programs are wanted and needed. Your voice is the most powerful tool we have right now.
If you believe in this mission and want these resources at El Dorado, here’s how you can help:
- Talk to Staff: This is the most important step. Speak with your Unit Team, or other staff. Tell them you’ve heard about SoulCraft and that you are interested in the programs we want to offer. The more they hear from you, the stronger our case becomes.
- Spread the Word: Share this newsletter. Talk about SoulCraft with other men in your pod and around the facility. A groundswell of interest from you is our best chance of success.
For Your Family & Friends on the Outside
As a new non-profit, SoulCraft is powered by the support of people who believe in our mission. If your family or friends are looking for a way to support your journey, they can play a vital role.
Please encourage them to visit our website to learn more. Financial donations of any size will help us fund our programs and provide certified training for future SoulCraft employees.
We are ready and waiting to continue the work we started together. With your help, we hope to see you all again very soon.
With respect and hope for the future,
Sage Gorman and Ansu Thomas
